Cultivating Grace

The Hindu Vedas tell us that we are born into bliss, we live in bliss, and it is to bliss that we return. They call this state Ananda, the state of love that has no possibility of being disrupted by fear. The Vedas teach us that this blissful state is our natural state of being. The concept that comes closest to describing this state in the western culture is Grace. If the Vedas teaching is true, Grace must be available to us every moment of our lives. But, how do we return to this bliss? How do we achieve this exquisite state? The great masters of Reiki teach that it can be reached through the three pillars of Reiki: meditation, the cultivation of personal power, and practice. In this workshop we will explore these pillars as pathways to Grace.

It is the year of the Earth Ox 4706. What began in the previous Earth Rat year is made manifest by the Ox and will bring the substance that will continue for the next 10 years. Slow and true, the Ox takes us through the waters and onto the field. Here new seeds can be sown in the ox-plowed earth, to nourish and sustain us in the coming times.

Memorial incense will be offered for all to honor the births and deaths of this past year. We will chant to Kuan Yin, the goddess of fearless compassion, Hail to Thee, great complet energy, Grace. Kuan Yin sees and hears, and has the patient power to teach and save us.

Bio

Janet has studied and taught T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Chi Kung for over twenty years. Janet began learning The Dragon Tiger Mountain Form as taught by Sifu Nam Singh in Sonoma, California, in 1978. The same year she joined the Pacific Association of Women in the Martial Arts known as PAWMA and has attended many of their training sessions working with a variety of martial arts, including Master Wen Mai Yu who taught T’ai Chi Sword and Lian Gong therapeutic exercise. She also studied sword and meditation with Michele Benzamine Miki, and Push hands and Nanking Integrated System with Joe Deisher. Janet started student teaching in 1979 and began her own school in 1981, in Philo, CA. and taught many years at Vinwood Park in Ukiah, as well as several health clubs.

Janet has lived and taught in Cloverdale, CA. since 1997. She has had over 40 graduates of the 108 movements of the Dragon Tiger Mountain Form. Janet has held many spring workshops inviting other teachers for Chi Kung practice, staff and sword practice and Push Hands as well as healing arts. She has also been a presenter for Project Sanctuary, Women against Violence Conference in San Francisco, and several other workshops and weekend conferences. She is featured in the book Sharp Spear Crystal Mirror written by Stephanie Hoppe, Martial Arts in Women’s Lives.
